This article speaks to me on many levels. I had the "big" corporate job-great pay, benefits, travel and an exciting career. Fast forward to the recession and I was part of the second round of mass layoffs. After months of searching I decided to use all that I had learned in my "job" to start my own business. Two years later I am more successful as my own boss, than I ever was in the corporate world.
Don't get me wrong, it was two years of pulling a bus up hill with my teeth! But I love what I do and love going to work every day!
Thanks for the article, I passed it along to a few friends!

When we last met we were discussing duty... I don't think I can quite claim you have a duty to your sometime followers. But perhaps you have raised expectations. Our own dear Jane might have thought you had also raised some small obligations -- at least to say good bye.

If you need encouragement that there are those still interested in your voice, you have it.

So how do you start over at 55? I was just fired after 10 years because of a personality issue with the president who originally referred me to the position when he was vp and also was a member of my church. In the last couple of years, he quit our church and has pretty much "quit" all of his associations there. He did not even do the firing - he had his "gal pal" exec vp do it who just so happened to be my supervisor. Now, I'm trying to "reinvent" myself and start over and try to make the comparable salary that I was. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Good Blog

Speaking as someone attempting to live on a pension, I can relate. Though I don't have much money, I still have a lot of reasons to feel rich.

One thing that might help our economy - give the General Accounting Office actual auditing powers-all they do now is write reports. Maybe if the people who are running this country actually faced penalties for stealing our money, things would improve.
